Planning for a golf outing

Golf outings are a blast, and it's hard to think of a better way to reward employees , raise funds, or to court clients. Planning an outing is also a lot of work. Here are some basic tips and guidelines to help you run a successful outing.

Pre-outing tasks

  1. Pick the course - Where you hold your outing can be a key to the participation. Check with a variety of courses for date availability, location, experience, on site amenities, and other specials you might receive.
  2. Pick your identity/logo - If this is a corporate outing or foundation use their logo to promote it. The logo you choose should be used on all signage, gifts, awards, apparel , and any other items that will identify with the company and outing. Try to make your outing unique-this will help with the marketing and create an outing that people will remember.
  3. Promote your outing - Use the tools we provide on our site. Start by creating a flyer or sending a save the date card, promoting the outing and make that visible 2-3 months before the outing. Next create all your signage that will be used at the outing, from banners to tee signs to flags. Follow that by getting all your giveaways, tee gifts and awards customized with your logo. This will keep your name and memory of that event in the players mind.
  4. Getting Sponsors - To help with the gifts and hole games contact local merchants and organizations to see if they would like to donate or sponsor certain games or holes. Most merchants will accept your invitation knowing that every golfer in the outing will see their name/logo along with their generous contribution.
  5. Games/ Creating a fun atmosphere - If you would like some ideas please email GGSolutions for specific hole or outing games.

Day of the outing

  1. Registration Table - Make sure you have a registration table. This can be a crazy place so make sure you are very organized before the outing on procedures.
  2. Having a large board with all the groups names with their starting hole will help with the amount of questions your staff may receive.
  3. Signage - Make sure to have all your signage in good locations to insure that your name will be seen by all the players.
  4. Gifts - It is always good to have some kind of gift for every participant. You can have simple gifts such as a sleeve of golf balls, or very nice packages that give you the advantage of having your logo or message in front of that participant long after the outing. Greg Norman Polos, customized golf towels, imprinted golf tees, golf bag tags, and many more items that we have for your to personalize are excellent ways to let everyone know that you value them and their investment into your outing.
  5. Food/Beverages - It is always a good idea to have a beverage cart roaming the course during an outing. This is also another great place to get your logo in front of your guests. You can have bottled water that is personalized with your logo or give them a can coozie, to promote them to drink your beverages. Based on your budget plan your meal accordingly. Most courses will have options for you to choose from, but it is hard to go wrong with a buffet style lunch or dinner. This allows you to offer many options which should hopefully cover everyone's likes.
  6. Awarding Prizes - The more and bigger the better. You will probably have some participants who aren't very good golfers so it is always a good idea to have raffle ticket prizes that have nothing to do with golfing skills. This gives everyone a chance to win. Also make sure that the awarding of prizes move along as fast as possible. During the social time before dinner is always a great time to do this.
